Hidden Mickey: Sometimes Dead Men DO Tell Tales! (available in paperback and Nook & Kindle eBook) Hidden Mickey 2: It All Started... (now available in paperback and Nook & Kindle eBook) Nancy's Annual Anniversary visit with her husband, Russ, to Disneyland was not a speaking event, or a Book Signing event, just a Fun event. She first met with Hidden Mickey fan Barbara S. and her son James, and signed her books when visiting over breakfast at the Rainforest Cafe. Nancy and Russ stayed at the Grand Californian and had a wonderful room with a great view of the California Adventure Disney Park. After a wonderful meal at Ariels Grotto Restaurant, they were given special seating for the World of Color water/light show. It was Fantastic! The following day, inside Disneyland on the Jungle Cruise ride, Donnie was the Skipper, and he was the best Skip Nancy and Russ have ever experienced to date, so Nancy took a set of Hidden Mickey novels out and personalized them as a gift to Donnie. He was so moved it almost brought him to tears. If you ever have the privilege of getting in with Donnie as your Skip, you'll really enjoy the experience! As a different experience, when in the queue for the Indiana Jones ride, right where the movie is being played, just before the entry to the ride vehicles, the ride broke down. Rather than evacuate the people in line an enterprising castmember, Christy, realized the ride may be down only a few minutes, so she came forward to the movie screen and made the statement she was going to entertain us with a Disney Trivia Quest. Well, she started asking simple questions, like "What Year did Disneyland open?", "What day?", etc, and the questions progressed in difficulty. Well, no one knew any of the answers, so Russ started yelling out the correct answers, one after the other, but what no one else heard was Nancy telling him the answers... Christy could not believe he knew all the answers, and directed her attention to Russ. He then told the entire room full of people "The reason I know all the answers is because Nancy Temple Rodrigue, the author of Hidden Mickey: Sometimes Dead Men Do Tell Tales! and it's sequel, is right here next to me telling me the answers". Christy couldn't believe it, and had to come meet Nancy, and she was then given a copy of the novel, personalized of course. The entire room of people asked for a flyer on the books so they too could get in on the fun. It is so nice to see Disney castmembers putting their all into their jobs, just to entertain us while visiting the Parks, so Nancy enjoyed the opportunity to express her appreciation to a few.

TOONFEST Nancy released the sequel, 'HIDDEN MICKEY: It All Started...' in The Walt Disney Hometown Museum in Marceline, Missouri. The Release/Book Signing at Toonfest was a huge success!  If you've never been to Toonfest you really need to come next year, the entire town shuts down to support it, and where Kansas Ave turns into "Main Street USA" the fun begins. Read Nancy's Blog on this Toonfest event... There were parades, kids activities, and lectures from Nancy and several Cartoon Annimators.

The bad thing is that theweather and other elements have taken their toll, and the Autopia has fallen into disrepair. We now have the opportunity to make history again, by restoring and making the Midget Autopia ride a major Museum attraction once again! Please help us with your generous donation so the Marceline Volunteers can upgrade and re-install the ride to it's former glory, right next to the Walt Disney Hometown Museum in Marceline, for info just click the Midget Autopia image. Hidden Mickey: Sometimes Dead Men DO Tell Tales! Disneyana Fan Club DisneyanaMania Convention & All Disneyana Show and Sale 2010 On Thursday, July 15th, Nancy and Dave were the invited guest speakers at the Disneyana Fan Club DisneyanaMania Convention. They shared some of the secrets behind the HIDDEN MICKEY series of novels. Both Nancy and Dave share with the NFFC the common goal of keeping Walt’s legacy alive. Then on Saturday, July 17th, they were in on the festivities of the 55th Anniversary of DISNEYLAND. The following day, Sunday, July 18th, from 9am until 5pm they were given a complimentary Book Signing Table at the "All Disneyana Show and Sale" where they were Signing and Personalizing books for Disney Fans, young and old alike. They gave a sneak peek at the new sequel HIDDEN MICKEY: It All Started... but these were not available yet.

Here's Nancy's take on the event... with photos... and a clip of Disney Legend Bill Farmer (the voice of Goofy).

Dave and I are back from the annual NFFC Disneyana Convention that was held in Anaheim. Thursday, July 15th, we had been invited to speak on their Author's Panel along with Tom Sito and Pam Burns, daughter to Harriet Burns - the first woman Imagineer. It was such an honor for us to be invited to attend, let alone speak! Dave and I were the last to talk about Hidden Mickey and the next book in the series: Hidden Mickey 2: It All Started.... This was my first Author's Panel and my first public speech. (Sorry, the book presentation I did to Erik Estrada doesn't count! lol)
If you missed our Lecture, here it is on YouTube from the Disneyana Convention Author's Panel.
A funny note: I was nervous, as you might expect, to have to speak in front of so many people--and all of them Disney fans. We arrived about 2 hours early and were able to listen to Disney Legend Willie Ito speak about his experiences over the years. I checked my watch and saw it was 3:30, so I had a little over an hour before I would go on. I went and sat with Dave's mom and relaxed as we listened to the speaker who was right before our part, Matt McKim of the McKim family. Sam McKim, his father, is another Disney Legend who is well known for his wonderful animation. I was familiar with his name from the large Disneyland maps that he designed years ago and that are still updated every so many years. As this speech progressed, I glanced at my watch and saw I still had an hour before I was to go on and wondered why Matt was seemingly finishing up so early....After all, it was only 3:30. Then the convention manager came up to me and said, "You're on next." I know--after Matt. I still have an hour to go... Okay, that is when I saw my watch had stopped at 3:30. So, I didn't have much time to be nervous, which is a good thing when you stop to think about it.
Dave and I did well together with our first lecture. No one threw anything at us, so it was a good day!
My husband Russ and I attended the Fantasia-Mania Celebration Banquet honoring Bill Farmer - the voice of Goofy! He was a wonderful speaker and lead us through many great years with Disney and a plethora of voices that he does. I was able to meet him later and could tell what a warm, caring person he is.
Friday was a full day of presentations from animator Rick Farmiloe, Imagineers Tony Baxter, Kim Irvine, Josh Shipley, and character voice actor June Foray. Rick's recent work includes the MetLife commercials with Snoopy - my favorite being the one with Snoopy on a Jungle Cruise-like boat going through the jungle. Tony, Kim, and Josh spoke about bringing back the Mr. Lincoln presentation to Main Street, the relocation and work done to the beautiful Disney Gallery, and the upgrades done to Tom Sawyer's Island and the Rivers of America in Frontierland. Russ had a nice chat with Tony Baxter afterwards and was able to tell him about the third Hidden Mickey book which deals specifically with Tom Sawyer's Island and present him with my book.
After the seminars, Russ and I were invited to join the group for the Legends Dinner in the banquet room. Oh my! We were seated front and center at the same table with Dave Smith - the long-time Disney historian (who is also currently reading my book!), Imagineer Kim Irvine (who showed her dining companion her copy of my book!), and Tom Nabbe who was the first person hired by Walt Disney to work at Disneyland. Tom was the first Tom Sawyer there at Disneyland! If I had thrown a breadstick, I could have hit Legend Bob Gurr at the next table over. At other tables were costumer/designer Alice Davis, choreographer Miriam Nelson, Bill Farmer, Tony Baxter, Imagineer Floyd Norman, animator Mark Henn, Carolyn Carroll - the wife of the late Eddie Carrol who was the voice of Jiminy Cricket. The dinner was wonderful with tributes to those who were no longer with us and four who were honored for their continuing work with Disney.
Saturday was Disneyland's 55th anniversary and Russ and I joined the festivities. There was a special road rally/quest that was designed just for us Disneyana Fan Club members and it was a lot of fun. Some answers I knew right away, both from the research I did on Hidden Mickey and from past visits to the Park. Did I mention it was 101 degrees that day?
Sunday was the all-day Disneyana sale. The most popular table was the Imagineering sale going on in the main lobby. People had to get FastPasses just to get in line. And, yes, I did.... There were three huge rooms filled with Disney merchandise of all kinds for sale. Dave and I had our table right next to David Koenig who writes the wonderful Mouse Tales books full of stories and remembrances from Disneyland cast members over the years. After it was all over, I was able to meet Robert Olszewski who creates those stunningly beautiful buildings of Disneyland. His attention to detail is amazing! All the buildings light up. Some of the ride buildings like Alice and Peter Pan open up so you can see inside the ride just as it looks in the Parks. He even has a miniature crystal-studded Main Street Electrical Parade to go down his Main Street!
The whole convention was a wonderful experience for me and I am very grateful to have been invited to participate in it. Dave and I did a podcast for MousePlanet that will be run at a later date on their website. To say I was star-struck is putting it mildly. The people I was able to meet have been legends and inspirations for multitudes of people over literally decades. And they were the nicest, friendliest people you could ever talk to.
If any of you have not attended the NFFC Disneyana Fan Club DisneyanaMania Conventions, do it! You won't be disappointed. There are many local chapters of the Club, so check the area in which you live. Dave and I have been invited to speak at the Disneyana Studio Chapter in Burbank, on August 22nd at 1pm, so if you are in that chapter we'll see you then.

HIDDEN MICKEY: Sometimes Dead Men DO Tell Tales! We had a great time at "The Dickens Festival" in the Dixie Convention Center in St. George Utah. This event was from Wednesday, December 2nd, until Saturday December 5th.  Nancy and Dave were dressed to fit the Olde London Dickens theme.  We met with Fans and sold almost 400 autographed copies of HIDDEN MICKEY in just 4 days!

Hidden Mickey is doing very well, it was Officially Released September 1st, 2009, and so far, in just 3-1/2 months, we have sold over half of the First Edition printing!  We Thank all Hidden Mickey Fans for spreading the word.  We are constantly stopped on the street and told how great the book is, and how much everyone is enjoying it.  One Fan from Hurricane, Utah, stopped by when we were in St. George last week, just to tell us that she gave the book to her daughter, and her daughter thoroughly enjoyed it, saying she just couldn't put it down, she read all 482 pages in just one night!  This Fan is now reading it herself, and also highly recommending it to her friends!  Another teen Fan stopped to tell us he recommended it to his entire class, and many of these teens put down Harry Potter and Twilight, and are reading and enjoying Hidden Mickey in favor of those best sellers!
We would like to Thank each and every one of you for your support!  Please keep telling others what you thought of Hidden Mickey!

HIDDEN MICKEY: Sometimes Dead Men DO Tell Tales! Disneyland Resort This trip to Disneyland was an Anniversary present to Nancy's husband Russ. They stayed at the new Disney Vacation Club resort that just opened at the Grand Californian Hotel in Anaheim, and it was indeed a wonderful accommodation, check out the view! Arrival was Sunday when they met with Todd Regan and the rest of the MiceChat group. Nancy presented Todd a gift copy of Hidden Mickey. 'Pirates' was next on the agenda, then over to DCA to taste some Wine! The day was off to a great start! Russ and Nancy took off on their own and did Screamin', Toy Story, and Soarin' before returning back to Disneyland to go on a few more rides. All along Russ was busy handing out Hidden Mickey flyers, and talking to everyone he could about the book. Monday started with breakfast at Rainforest Cafe, then they checked in with Compass Books and Cafe, in Downtown Disney, to see how Hidden Mickey book sales are doing, and we were pleased to find that it was selling very well indeed! On to Disneyland, where they were joined by Russ' sister Anita, so they spent the day with her having plenty of Disney Fun! At 1pm on to the 'Billy Hill and the Hillbillies' show at the Golden Horseshoe, where after the show Nancy presented Kirk and Anders (2 of the Billys) each a copy of Hidden Mickey, they had fun taking pictures with all the Billy's. Tuesday Russ and Nancy started the day at Disneyland where they ran into Mickey, just then a Hidden Mickey Fan found them and wanted Nancy to Autograph her copy of the book she had just purchased at Compass Books. On to the Jungle Cruise and Indiana Jones, and a few other rides, and between DCA and Disneyland they once again had a great time doing their favorite things, having Fun! Russ also met with Disney execs to set-up a book signing event on Disney Avenue in Downtown Disney, and as you can read in these blogs it was a huge success. Will keep you all posted!

HIDDEN MICKEY: Sometimes Dead Men DO Tell Tales! Dave and Nancy were at the Cruzin' for Life Car Show inside the Santa Barbara County Fairpark in the City of Santa Maria, CA. There were fans that came to have their books signed, and quite a few books were sold to the large crown present at the Car Show. At 2pm there was a parade and cruise that went down Broadway Avenue in Santa Maria. Nancy drove her T-Bird with Dave riding shotgun, and the Grand Marshall of the car show, Mendy Fry, also known as "Nitro Kitty", was riding as their guest of honor. Mendy was showing her Funny Car dragster on Saturday, then on Sunday she did 2 fantastic burnouts as the grand finale to the Burnout Competition. It was a great show. Lots of other cool cars were cruzin' with Cancer Survivors, so we all had a great time. Just before Saturday's Cruzin' parade, Dave and Nancy presented a "Hidden Mickey" book to Mendy Fry, and also one to the Cruzin' for Life Committee Chairman, Bob Labastida, along with a check from part of the proceeds of that day's sales of "Hidden Mickey" in benefit of the American Cancer Society to help in the fight against Cancer.
If you didn't make it to the car show/book signing, please be sure to watch this blog page for future book signing events.

HIDDEN MICKEY: Sometimes Dead Men DO Tell Tales! Hidden Mickey presented to Car Show Organizer, Harry Heidt then Nancy presented Hidden Mickey to Car Show Special Guest Eric Estrada and Russ won the 1st Trophy, Best in Class for his '23 T-Bucket, presented by Eric Estrada Since Nancy owns a Classic 1957 T-Bird, and featured it in "HIDDEN MICKEY", She felt it fitting to hold her first Author's Book Signing event at a Car Show in my Hometown, Lompoc CA. This Book Signing was held on September 5th at the Special Olympics Car Show inside Ryon Park in Lompoc CA.
The Car Show started at 9am and lasted till 3pm. It was a terrific day, 72o with just a slight breeze, perfect weather! There was a terrific showing of really nice cars. From street rods, to classic cars, to antiques, about 250 in all. When the Award Ceremony began, as the Author of Hidden Mickey, Nancy was called to the stage and presented a copy of HIDDEN MICKEY to the Car Show Organizer, Harry Heidt, Retired Investigator on the Lompoc Police Dept., and then gave a copy to Guest Star Eric Estrada, from the TV series 'CHiPS'. Next was the Car Show Awards, and the next person called to the stage was her husband, Russ Rodrigue, with his 1923 T-Bucket. He won The Best in Class for 'Open Street Rods to 1927', so Eric Estrada presented him with that Award. The other Awards went to the owners of those gorgeous cars, and the day was over.
Nancy was then able to present Harry Heidt, the organizer of Special Olympics car Show, with a check from the proceeds of that days sales of Hidden Mickey.
